Maine Military Museum

Maine Military Museum - Katahdin Iron Works is the site of ironworks, built in 1843. The blast furnace and the restored charcoal kiln remind visitors of the effort that has produced nearly 2,000 tons of pig iron a year for half a century.

Charcoal is produced in fourteen kilns that use 10,000 sticks of wood a year. There are beautiful views and entertainment opportunities around the Katahdin ironworks. Among the best known sites is the Gulf Hogs, a 3.5-mile valley of granite.
